Director Katrina Browne spent the morning with the participants of the diocesan convention showing her film “Traces of the Trade.” This film examines Ms. Browne’s heritage and it’s link to the slave trade industry in the North.
The film invited response from members in the audience who where eager to share their own experiences. One member stated, “One thing I love about this church is our nature of call and response.” Another explained her interaction with a young lady who held judgement on people she had never met. “True prejudice,” she explained, “is judging people before we meet them.”
The movie calls, not only for a chance to look retrospectively, but also for each person to take the time to look for actions to take in the future. Repentence is not just saying you’re sorry, but also “experiencing the anger of those who have been hurt by racial injustice,” explained The Most Rev. Frank Griswold, 25th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church.
