Yesterday afternoon (July 13) the House of Bishops took up Resolution D025, a multilayered resolution which I hope you will read in its entirety before you continue reading these reflections. [View the final version of the resolution here] The resolution reaffirms our Church’s continuing and deep commitment – spiritual, financial and missional – to life and relationships in the Anglican Communion. It goes on to reaffirm that we continue to be governed by the Constitution and Canons of The Episcopal Church as our Anglican polity requires. The resolution also points to and gives thanks for the ministry of lay and ordained gay and lesbian people in this Church as well as this Church’s understanding that the call to ordained ministry comes from God and in the mystery of that reality, notes that the call to ordained ministry may come to any baptized person.

Some early reflections from Bishop Daniel on Resolution D025
July 14, 2009How Broad is My Horizon?
July 7, 2009Posted By: Bishop Daniel
I’m sitting on an airplane flying at 32000 feet hurtling towards Los Angeles and General Convention. Dinner has been served and the cabin is quiet. Anne is asleep next to me.
After all the rush and busyness of preparing to leave, doing the writing and planning I needed to do in preparation for my responsibilities at the Convention, taking the pets to the pet motel for their vacation enjoyment, the airport hassle, the long walk to change planes in the Charlotte airport and the stretches and strains of putting luggage in the overhead storage bin, it is nice for things to be quiet and to let my thoughts to find their own place to settle.
Just A Few Thoughts from Bishop
July 5, 2009A Post from Bishop Daniel
I want to share some thoughts with you as I prepare to leave for Anaheim this coming Saturday. First, I’m excited to prepare to attend my seventh General Convention (my fifth as Bishop), and I am honored once again to take my place in Convention as Bishop of our blessed Diocese of East Carolina.
For me, this will be a busy General Convention (All of them are!). There is first, the daily round of legislative sessions, committee meetings, worship including small services as well as a daily Eucharist for the entire Convention, special events, etc. A brief look at the (filled) General Convention daily schedule will give a good idea of how a Deputy or Bishop’s day is spent in the main. L.A. Like the Movies

Sitting in the LAX airport always reminds me of the movies. Sitting in any airport, taking any flight reminds me of the movies. But today it is especially true. Today we have landed in the land of dreams. “Everyone who comes to Hollywood has a dream.”
Puzzle Pieces
July 1, 2009Posted By: Mrs. Susan Holmes
After working on the Diocesan Convention Committee for several years, I have discovered that I am that oddball who just loves convention. I love seeing the Diocese as a whole come together to worship, work, and have fun together. I often use the analogy of a puzzle. Each parish is a piece of the puzzle of the Diocese of East Carolina. At convention you get to see how each piece fits into that puzzle and what the whole picture looks like. This is how I envision General Convention, just on a grander scale. I am excited to see how the Diocese of East Carolina fits into the puzzle of The Episcopal Church.
